We initially started as a volunteer project in early 2023 when the intersection of AI and emerging technologies and nonhuman welfare was largely unexplored territory. Since then, we have grown into an international field-building organization with the goal of creating a thriving ecosystem where researchers, advocates, and industry professionals can meet and collaborate to reduce suffering for all sentient beings. We facilitate this collaboration through our Slack community, conferences, fellowships, and newsletter.

At the same time, we're involved in direct work when opportunities arise. One example is the development of AnimalHarmBench, the first ever benchmark measuring risk of animal harm in LLM responses, as well as its successor AnimalHarmBench 2.0, which delves into the moral reasoning that LLMs engage in.
