The project
PRISM runs a variety of field-building projects with its partners to prepare society for AI systems with real or perceived minds. Depending on the mentee's preference and background, and PRISM's priorities at the time, the mentee can take on responsibilities and tasks, including the following:
- Helping manage and improve the Digital Minds Community Slack workspace.
- Helping improve the Digital Minds Course based on feedback from the first cohort.
- Helping improve the Beginners' Guide to Digital Minds.
- Helping curate and write the Digital Minds Newsletter.
- Helping plan and edit the Exploring Machine Consciousness podcast.
- Helping with other PRISM projects.
The mentee's role
Mentees own a set of concrete tasks and responsibilities drawn from the list above, working fairly independently with weekly guidance and support.
Who I'm looking for
Must-haves:
- Not overcommitted with other responsibilities, and able to work on and projects reliably at the agreed level of commitment.
- Highly organised, reliable, and independent, and comfortable owning operational tasks without much hand-holding.
- Focused on impact and results, and oriented toward work that delivers tangible outcomes.
- Works well collaboratively with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Genuinely interested in digital minds and related issues.
- Open to, and interested in, pursuing non-research careers in digital minds.
- Partial availability to UTC+1
Nice-to-haves:
- Experience in field-building, community management, research communication, or outreach.
- Established networks in consciousness science, AI sentience, AI safety, or AI governance communities.
- Familiarity with AI consciousness or philosophy of mind literature.
- Living in or able to commute to Cambridge (not essential).
- High availability to UTC+1

- We are open to mentees at a minimum of 8 and a maximum of 30 hours, with a preference for more rather than fewer.
- If you prefer to work more than 15 hours per week, we’d need to increase this gradually, not starting right at 30 hours a week.

Guney Turker
Güney is Fieldbuilding and Operations Manager at PRISM (Partnership for Research Into Sentient Machines), a UK-based charity working on preparing society for AI systems, both real and perceived. He is interested in field-building, theory of change, and helping the field of digital minds grow.
Previously, at Future Impact Group, he developed the AI Sentience Fellowship Extension Program. Before working on digital minds, he led nationwide field-building as Co-director of Effective Altruism Turkey, supported operations at Effective Altruism Netherlands, mentored EA university group organisers as a Community Building Mentor, and founded Koç Effective Altruism, growing it into one of the most active EA university groups of its time. In early 2025, as a field-builder, he decided to focus his career on digital minds, combining his experience in field-building, operations, and strategy to help address the moral status of digital minds. Outside work, he likes cats, moral philosophy, silly brain-rot internet culture, and, most importantly, musicals.
