The project
I have two project areas that I would love to mentor:
1. AI Governance for Animals Hub (AIGAH)
I am currently founding the AI Governance for Animals Hub. Over the next 6 months, the hub will produce research, templates for potential interventions, and organise field-building for AI governance for animals. I have already identified 25 regulatory gaps across the EU and UK and drafted first templates for interventions. I will launch the AIGAH website soon, and I'm planning a workshop on AI governance for animals for November 2026. All of these activities can benefit from your input - you could do research, draft possible interventions, produce briefs for policymakers, help with organising the workshop (and hopefully join, of course!).
2. Bringing AI×Animals to German-speaking audiences
👤 This project is co-mentored by Philip Kratz. To apply, select only Philip Kratz as mentor.
Create an engaging, interactive info website in German, with the first with the first goal of making knowledge about AI × Animals accessible to German-speaking audiences. Despite around 95 million native speakers in Europe alone and Germany as the world's third-largest economy, we think topics around AI (and sentient beings) are still very much under-represented and often misunderstood. Later on, we might extend this into field-building and in-person meetings/summits. The website should:
- Showcase positive and negative scenarios, chances and risks for non-human animals through AI
- Be catchy, picturesque, precise and informative
The mentee's role
1. AI Governance for Animals Hub (AIGAH)
- Take a specific governance gap I've already identified and research how to tackle it (producing a short report on potential pathways to action, or drafting advocacy templates that organisations can use).
- Research further pathways in the EU and UK to influence AI governance in ways that benefit animals, both near and long term.
- Map AI governance for animals in a jurisdiction beyond the EU and UK and produce an action-guiding report.
- Produce a policy brief on a single lever (e.g. access to AI-flagged slaughterhouse footage, or the GPAI Code of Practice).
- Assist in planning an AI Governance for Animals workshop in November 2026 (probably taking place in London).
I'm happy to carve out specific tasks, but mentees can also pursue their own projects within AI governance for animals, where I can help with background knowledge on how things currently stand in the EU and UK. The aim would be to publish results – on the EA Forum, on AIGAH's website once it launches, or elsewhere; happy to discuss what fits.
2. Bringing AI×Animals to German-speaking audiences
We need a wide variety of skill sets, including graphic designers, website creators / programmers, AI experts, animal experts, marketing specialists, potentially translators into other languages and regional (German) dialects, and any other skills we might miss that you could bring!

Henrike Gätjens
AI Governance for Animals Hub (AIGAH)
Hi! I'm currently founding the AI Governance for Animals Hub (AIGAH), focused on EU and UK frameworks. I have a PhD in history of science and have done animal advocacy alongside academia for a long time. I was a mentee with Max Taylor in the last Sentient Futures incubator round, and now I would like to help others get oriented in the space and do great work for all sentient beings.
