The project

Create an intro website / landing page for animals x AI - an entry point to the field.

I'm thinking it could be somewhat equivalent to this https://digitalminds.guide/#intro for digital minds, or this https://wildanimalsuffering.org/ for wild animals

There are other really cool and helpful resources that exist, which we can signpost to, but in my opinion it seems there is currently no fantastic 'entry point' to which we can direct someone brand new.

I have strong intuitions about what kind of website vibe and content would be helpful, but would love someone to take ownership and bring their own ideas too - it will be a collaboration.

For this project incubator, the main project I'm interested in mentoring is the AI×Animals introductory website. However I would be open to mentoring the following two projects also, if someone applies who is the right fit:

  • (medium size project but with ongoing maintenance) Foie Gras Free - help me to scale up this automated tracker / database / email campaign, identifying restaurants which have foie gras on their menus and asking them to change. https://potent-musician-8f0.notion.site/Foie-Gras-Free-388918a6f5698131b74bc14108f126ae?source=copy_link
  • (small project but with ongoing maintenance) One Kind Act - help me to automate this daily email subscription substack featuring one remote low-lift action — a petition, comment, or email — from a top animal advocacy org each day. No long explainers, no imagery, just an Act Now button. For advocates who want to take action efficiently and consistently
  • (larger project) Set up a project / platform to manage volunteers and/or crowdsource systematically finding examples in ChatGPT and other models where animal welfare standards are inconsistently applied or contradictory to model specs or egregious outputs that even non-vegans would find problematic - can be used directly to advocate to AI labs

The mentee's role

You'll bring this from a concept to a working product creating value for our field. This will probably include:

  • Collaborate with frankie on finalising the goals of the site, scope, vibe, target audience, etc
  • You'll go away and create drafts for review
  • You'll iterate based on feedback from Frankie
  • You'll gather feedback from other stakeholders throughout the process
  • You'll launch and promote the finished product
  • (Potentially maintain / update the site on an ongoing basis)
  • There may be other skills you'll need to teach yourself in a short time frame
  • Other tasks as-needed

Who I'm looking for

Must-haves:

  • Someone who is already quite knowledgeable about the lay of the land, or can get their bearings very quickly: which orgs work in this space? What are they up to? Which resources exist? Which projects exist? The main arguments for why our field is important, the main sub-fields within AIxAnimals. Etc.
  • Ideally you have some experience building a website before / vibe coding (or happy to learn this skill quickly)
  • Pleasant to work with, collaborative approach
  • Open to constructive feedback and able to iterate quickly based on input

Nice-to-have:

  • Able to maintain the site after the Incubator

Folks from under-represented backgrounds are especially encouraged to apply :)

Support offered

  • Shaping the strategic direction of the project to be as impactful as possible
  • Visual / creative input
  • Facilitating connections
  • Providing accountability
  • Some amount of general career coaching / advising
  • Domain expertise: project management, volunteer management, events, operations, recruitment, relationship management, etc.
  • I'm generally interested in helping out, if there's something that feels useful just ask :)
