Volunteer for us

Help shape a future that includes all sentient beings.

We periodically seek volunteers for specific projects and events. If you're interested, fill out the form below and we'll add you to our database. When something comes up that fits your skills or location, we'll reach out.

Ways to contribute

  • Slack community support

Help keep our 1,500+ member Slack community thriving.

    • Slack Volunteer (~1-5 hours/week) — Support the community as needs come up. This could mean welcoming new members, helping surface relevant conversations, connecting people across channels, or pitching in on other community tasks. We will reach out as needed for specific tasks.
    • Community Connectors (~1-5 hours/week) — Work with the team to link community members with opportunities, connect people who should know each other, and reach out to organizations about roles and programs that might benefit our members.
  • Events and conferences

We host summits and gatherings throughout the year in locations like the Bay Area, London, and NYC. Event volunteers help with:

    • Registration and check-in
    • Catering coordination
    • Room management and setup
    • Facilitate speaker sessions
    • Day-of logistics

Time commitment varies (typically 6h per day of each event). We'll reach out when events are coming up in your region.

  • Research support

Support research on topics like artificial sentience, AI's impact on farmed and wild animals, interspecies communication, and s-risks.

    • Research assistants (~1-5hrs/week) — help with literature reviews, data analysis, summarizing findings, or other tasks depending on background and availability.
    • Program managers (~1-5hrs/week) — help participants with project scoping, finding resources, coaching presentations, managing team dynamics, and other hands-on support tasks.
  • Programs and operations

We run fellowships, mentorship programs, and in-person residency programs, and occasionally need support with operations, coordination, and administrative tasks. If you're interested in behind-the-scenes work, let us know.

  • Newsletter

Our newsletter keeps the community informed about developments at the frontier of animal welfare, artificial sentience, AI safety, and the future of nonhuman wellbeing. There may be ways to help with curation, formatting, or editing.

What we're looking for

The volunteers we work best with tend to:

  • Care deeply about the wellbeing of sentient beings—including beings that don't exist yet
  • Execute without needing lots of oversight
  • Have familiarity with effective altruism, the future of animal welfare, artificial sentience, or other future-focused cause areas
  • Bring their own ideas for how to contribute

You don't need to tick every box. If you're thoughtful, self-directed, and motivated by the mission, we'd like to hear from you.

This is an expression of interest, not a commitment. Fill out the form and we'll be in touch when something fits.
